Marin in Autumn for The Best Things to See and Do

While Marin County is a picturesque destination any time of the year, the cooler temperatures can be especially appealing. There are fewer tourists around, so you’re likely to get better deals on flights and hotels. Here are six unique activities to keep you warmly entertained during Marin's cooler temperatures.

1. Take a Food and Farm Tour

Sustainability is very important to the people of Marin, and everyone, from farmers to foodies, does his part to keep it that way. To learn about how your food gets from the fields to your plate, sign up for one of West Marin's interactive food and farm tours. Not only will you see beautiful landscapes like Point Reyes, but you'll learn the tips and tricks of maintaining a sustainable lifestyle. Plus, there's lots of eating! The Oyster Lover's Tour is one of West Marin’s most popular offerings, as is the Wine & Cheese Tour.

2. Go on a Safari

You don't have to travel all the way to South Africa to get a taste of a safari experience. Marin County is home to the Point Reyes National Seashore, a park preserve that stretches more than 71,000 acres and boasts extensive plant and animal diversity. On any given day, you can spot several of the 85 mammals that live within the park. Calling all birdwatchers! More than half of North America's bird species have been spotted in these skies. Excursions are limited to three people, with options of a half-day or full-day safari.

3. Take a Hike

One of the perks of visiting Marin County in winter is that the weather never really gets too cold. In fact, if you’re from the East Coast, you'll find Marin remarkably warm in comparison. Take advantage of the mild year-round weather and join Coastal Walkers for a guided walk along San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. During the half-day tour, you'll stroll through the city's scenic shoreline, take photos from the best viewpoints and discover secret spots few know about. Trips cap out at 10 people per walk.

4. Get Cozy in Your New Abode

Winter is the perfect excuse to snuggle up by the fire and rejuvenate the spirit with a hot cup of tea. For great views and easy access to historical landmarks, book a room at one of two boutiques across from the Golden Gate Bridge: the Acqua Hotel or the Mill Valley Inn. The Acqua Hotel offers stunning views of Mount Tamalpais. For something even more serene, spend a night at the Mill Valley Inn, which is scenically located in a redwood forest.

5. Tour Muir Woods and Wine Country in Style

It's no secret that Northern California is a food and wine destination. If you're eager to sample wines in luxury, Pure Luxury Tranpsortation is your best bet. Rooted in hard work, customer service and innovation, Pure Luxury Transportation is the first executive full service transportation company to be “Green Certified” in the North Bay. Since 1991, we have been providing everything from airport meet and greet transportation, group shuttles, board retreats to winery tours, dinner celebrations and golf transfers.

6. Kayaking

The great outdoors are particularly great during cooler temps which makes kayaking in Marin County a wonderful way to get outdoors in any season. Top kayaking destinations include the rich wildlife habitat of Corte Madera, the extremely popular Tomales Bay and its surrounding Point Reyes beaches. Rentals and lessons are available through Blue Waters Kayaking, and remember it’s always a good idea to check the forecast before heading to the water.
