Although Marin County is perfect year-round for outdoor activities, such as hiking, cycling and kayaking, sometimes a little eating, drinking, culture, and politics is on the agenda and mind.
Marin County hosts a cornucopia of events this fall that fit the bill, and like the colors of fall leaves, these events offer quite the variety. We’ve picked several of the many fantastic fall events in Marin County to put on your calendar now.
Mill Valley Film Festival
October 6 through 16, 2022
The internationally renowned Mill Valley Film Festival offers a high-profile, prestigious, non-competitive environment perfect for celebrating the best in independent and world cinema. The MVFF (the oldest fall film festival in California) remains committed to celebrating film and filmmakers and offering the highest resources and production elements possible, whatever challenges the world throws our way. We are approaching 2022 with the same commitment to quality and openness to opportunity as we plan for our showcase of new cinema at MVFF45. Watch this year's festival trailer on YouTube of movies to be shown!
Marin Symphony (2022-2023 Season)
The Season begins October 12, 2022
Marin Symphony opens its 2022 - 2023 season with bold brass of Joan Tower in a tribute to women who take risks and are adventurous, followed by Mendelssohn’s highly-regarded violin concerto, and topped with Tchaikovsky’s great and dynamic Symphony No. 5.
The season-opening concerts will be at 7;30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium in San Rafael.
Masterworks Pre-Concert Talks will be held at 6;30 p.m. Oct. 15 and 2 p.m. Oct. 16. The talks are free for all ticket holders.
AppleGarden Farm Tours
Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays
Crisp apples and the crisp fall air definitely go together. There’s no place like AppleGarden Farm in Tomales to savor that combo.
The farm offers weekend tours that include a visit to the apple orchard and a tasting of the farm’s organic hard cider. Tours are noon to 5 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
Admission is $5.00 per couple. But if you buy some cider, the admission fee is waived. Admission for large groups (up to 15 people) is $20.00.
Sound Summit 2022
This year's Sound Summit returns to benefit Mt. Tam and will boast a lineup led by ‘The War on Drugs’. Held in an intimate venue set amidst an expansive landscape, Sound Summit is a musical gathering like no other in the Bay Area. The festival is staged at the historic Mountain Theater, a 4000-seat natural stone amphitheater with stunning views of San Francisco Bay and beyond. Add a sun-filled day, a resonant cause, and a healthy dose of joy, spice generously with stellar music, and you have a recipe for a magical mountain brew.
Halloween in Corte Madera and San Rafael
October 29 - 30th
Corte Madera, San Rafael, and Novato will be serving up some safe, family-friendly Halloween fun on the weekend before the big day.
From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, you and your costumed kids can take part in the Annual Downtown San Rafael Trick-or-Treat event along the Fourth Street corridor. Admission is free. Festivities will include trick-or-treating at participating downtown shops, handouts of free candy bags at City Plaza and performances of live music.
The following day, Sunday, Oct. 30, in Corte Madera, kids and adults get another chance to unmask more Halloween activities during a trick-or-treat event at Town Center Corte Madera from noon to 3 p.m. Kids will receive free candy from local merchants and free balloons from Balloon Delights.
This year will mark the fourth annual Scream on the Green weekend event in Novato, kicking off on Friday, Oct. 27 at 5:30 in the evening. The event runs in conjunction with the Downtown Novato Business Association's Safe Trick or Treat, so there are many spooky surprises in store! Wander down the Chamber of Horrors, or kick back and relax to other types of ghoulish entertainment. Of course, there are also artisan booths, as well as a children's play area for younger kids.
More updated events for 2022 are still coming!
