Muir Woods Parking and Shuttle Reservations Required

To improve the visitor experience and enhance the protection of park resources, the National Park Service has launched a parking and shuttle reservation system at Muir Woods National Monument. Parking and shuttle reservations at Muir Woods National Monument began on January 16, 2018

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED

All vehicles and shuttle passengers arriving at Muir Woods will be subject to the reservation system. Visitors arriving by commercial carrier – or on foot or bicycle – will not be required to use the reservation system or pay fees associated with it.

Parking and shuttle reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance online at GoMuirWoods.com or by calling 1-800-410-2419. A portion of reservations will be released five days before they can be used to give locals and last-minute planners the opportunity to visit. Visitors will have the option to reserve either a vehicle parking space for $8 per car or a seat on the shuttle for $3 per adult (16 years and older). A vehicle or shuttle reservation provides the visitor with a timed arrival with no restriction on the length of stay for the remainder of the day. Visitors age 16 or older are required to pay a $15 park admission entrance fee in addition to any parking or shuttle reservation fees.

The shuttle can be boarded at the Pohono Park & Ride lot, 100 Shoreline Highway near Sausalito.

Users are urged to download or print their parking or shuttle reservations in advance because of the lack of Wi-Fi or cell phone service at or near Muir Woods.

The reservation system will proactively manage parking and visitor flow to protect the health of Muir Woods and the Redwood Creek watershed and effectively address overcrowding, traffic congestion, and parking issues. Under the new reservation system, annual visitation is expected to be reduced to under one million from an estimated 1.2 million visitors.

The shuttle will run on all weekends and holidays, and on weekdays during the peak summer season. Commercial carriers will be required to make advance reservations through a separate reservation system.

General information:
There is NO cell phone service or WiFi at or around Muir Woods National Monument. Download your parking reservation or shuttle ticket in advance.
If you plan to take a taxi service, please plan for a ride out before you arrive at the park. Fun note: If you bring quarters, you can experience using one of the country's last remaining pay phones.

Options on how to get to Muir Woods

Best Option: Make your parking reservation through www.GoMuirWoods.com. There are approximately 232 parking spaces in Muir Woods, and anywhere between 500 to 925 parking reservations available each day.

Next Best Option: Ride the Muir Woods Shuttle, weekends only, from April - October 2019. And weekdays (Route 66F, Sausalito Ferry & Marin City only), too, from June 20 - August 12. You can catch the shuttle at the Pohono Street Park and Ride Lot, Sausalito Ferry Terminal, and Marin City Hub on weekends, holidays, and through the summer; it runs as frequently as every 10 minutes, depending on the time of year.

Third OptionLocal tour companies bring groups to Muir Woods from San Francisco and Sausalito on a daily basis.

Alternate (adventurous!) Options: Take a combination of public transit and a little hiking - be sure to update the day and time of your visit on that website. No reservations are required if walking or biking into the woods.
