We hope you’ve bought your Halloween costume because it’s almost time to trick-or-treat! Marin County has many fun happenings around Halloween time, from live entertainment and colorful parades to themed farm and pumpkin patches. Whether you’re in town for Halloween or all of October, here are six ways to celebrate the spooky season.

Novato's Halloween Scream on the Green

This year marks the fourth annual Scream on the Green weekend event in Novato, kicking off on Friday, Oct. 25 at 5:30 in the evening. The event runs in conjunction with the Downtown Novato Business Association’s Safe Trick or Treat, so there are many spooky surprises in store! Wander down the Chamber of Horrors, or kick back and relax to live music and other entertainment. Of course, there are also artisan booths, as well as a children’s play area for younger kids.

Fairfax Halloween Parade

Halloween is all about costumes, so why not show yours off at this year’s Fairfax parade?

The starting point is the Fairfax Theatre on Broadway at 4:30 p.m., and then the crowd weaves down Broadway to Bolinas and on to the haunted grove in Bolinas Park. There are prizes for the best costumes—best family costume, best boy’s costume, best girl’s costume and most creative costume—which will be announced around 6 p.m. Winner or no winner, there will be treats for all!

HopMonk Tavern Pride & Joy Halloween Party

Ready to rock out this Halloween? If you’ve never heard Pride & Joy live, now’s your chance! During its many years of phenomenal success, Pride & Joy has remained the most popular party band on the Bay Area music scene. This group is the Pride of the Bay Area and a Joy to anyone who loves to dance. They have achieved this by presenting the most timeless pop/soul music of our time in an electrifying high-style show that pulls the audience directly into the heart of their performance. Tickets for HopMonk Tavern’s special Halloween performance are on sale now; doors open at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Costumes aren’t required but are definitely a fun way to get in the festive spirit.

Halloween Family Campout at Slide Ranch

For families spending Halloween in Marin County, Slide Ranch is the perfect setting for a carefree night out under the stars. This festive family campout, anticipating Halloween, is a celebration of community, art and wholesome treats. With a playful spirit, explore the creative potential of a bounty of winter squash, of all shapes and sizes. Get crafty with wool and make tasty tidbits to share for trick-or-treating around the farm. Bring costumes / festive adornments. Dinner, treats, breakfast and Sunday brunch will be provided. As part of Halloween Family Campout on Saturday, Oct. 26, join Slide Ranch teachers for a day of farm activities, crafts and nature exploration. At night, gather for dinner, a cozy campfire and camping under the stars. Sunday morning, enjoy a breakfast buffet, morning farm chores, and preparing homemade treats harvested from our organic garden.

Shopping Center Events

If you can’t quite commit to the events featured above, consider taking part in one of Marin County’s many shopping center events. There is trick-or-treating at Northgate Mall, where store clerks will hand out candy from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., as well as a pumpkin patch at the Marin Country Mart in Larkspur. The patch is open in October seven days a week, and organic pumpkins come from Fresh Run Farm in Bolinas. The big pumpkins are great for carving jack-o-lanterns, while the Cinderella ones are yummy to eat.
