2-Day Workshop
Drawing, the oldest art medium, is being re-invented and featured in exhibitions around the world. This workshop is inspired by the current excitement surrounding drawing. We will experiment with wet and dry mediums, and a variety of surfaces to create dynamic compositions.
You do not need to be skilled at accurate representation in drawing; in fact, you will be encouraged to develop some abstract images. There will be simple guidance about composition and mark-making, as well as demonstrations of different techniques, but the emphasis is on cutting loose with mark-making and new ways to create drawings.
Day 1, Wednesday, February 5, 11am – 4pm:
Hand out, and briefly discuss booklet showing the work of a few contemporary artists renowned for their drawings, followed by wet-medium work on paper, mylar, and yupo paper to be developed further in the second class. Making soot marks on paper with a candle. Drawing on dictionary pages.
Day 2, Wednesday, February 12, 11am – 4pm:
Development of soot and wet-medium drawings. Rubbings. Drawing and/or stitching on maps.
