The Bay Area is a sports fan’s paradise. Love football? We’ve got the Raiders and 49ers. Big Baseball fan? Check out the A's and Giants. Plus the Warriors and Sharks, oh my! And in Marin County, there are plenty of game-ready places where you can cheer on your favorite teams while enjoying great grub and delicious drinks. From casual brewhouses to cozy taverns, here are some of Marin County’s best spots to watch the biggest games.
Marin Brewing Company
When it comes to great-tasting beer, Marin Brewing Company in Larkspur takes the pint! While its main specialty is beer, the joint also has an impressive food menu. Snack on buffalo wings, French fries or homemade hummus as you chat with your brew buddies. For a hearty meal, try one of the Brewery Favorites, like the Tostadas Gongora (two tostadas topped with lettuce, rice, cheddar cheese and black beans served with salsa and sour cream) or the Cheese Steak Sandwich. For beer, you can't go wrong with Marin Brewing Company's selections, but we recommend the company’s best-selling flagship brew, the Mt. Tam Pale Ale.
BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse
Head to BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in San Rafael for flavorful food and local brews. BJ's recently won several medals at the 2015 North American Craft Beer Awards and the 2015 Great American Beer Festival, so rest assured that these brews are the best of the best. There are several beers always on tap, like the Brewhouse Blonde, the Harvest Hefeweizen and the Jeremiah Red, among others. Then, there are seasonal beers that rotate every few months. The food menu is great for families and larger groups, as there are shareable appetizers along with small bites and large-portion entrees.
Not a huge beer fan? No worries! Marinitas has you covered. Serving up Latin-focused cuisine, the menu is inspired by dishes typical of Mexico and Latin America. For Super Bowl Sunday, the restaurant went all out for patrons. Between the large projector screens and flat-screen TVs, every table had a great view of the game. Marinitas also offers discounts on cocktails and tacos all day, so you certainly won't go hungry here! The lively atmosphere makes this a fun party spot for large groups and hardcore sports fans alike. Win or lose, we guarantee you’ll be in a celebratory mood at Marinitas.
Sweetwater Music Hall
Sweetwater Music Hall is a staple in downtown Mill Valley. It's been open since 1972 and continues to draw a large crowd of music-goers and beer drinkers. For Super Bowl Sunday and other big games throughout the year, the big screen TV takes the stage and the venue transforms into sports fan heaven. Instead of live music, you'll watch the game while downing your favorite brew. If you get hungry, order some farm-to-table fare from the on-site cafe. Sweetwater’s FLOSS (fresh, local, organic, seasonal and sustainable) approach really comes across in its innovative dishes.
With an extensive menu and all the sports channels you could dream of, The Flatiron in San Rafael is the perfect spot to take in the game with a friend – or 40. The Flatiron has plenty of TVs, but if you and your team want to go big, you can reserve the back room with its 80-inch television and room for up to 40 guests. The food, drinks and sports aren’t the only reasons locals flock to The Flatiron. They also host Brainstormer Trivia every Tuesday night as well as First Friday Night Lights, a cover-free music night the first Friday of every month featuring DJ Beset and special guests.
Grab a beer (or several) at HopMonk Tavern in Novato. Start off with a sampling of the small plates, like the Tavern Samosas (curried onions, black beans, roasted peppers, pumpkin seeds and sweet corn wrapped in a crunchy wonton, served with cilantro chutney) or the grilled artichoke. The Tavern Fries/Garlic Fries are always a hit, too. For beer, we suggest ordering one of the special brews: the HopMonk Kellerbier, the HopMonk Tavern Ale, the HopMonk Dunkelweizen or the HopMonk IPA. Cheer for your favorite team as you view the game on the tavern’s big screen.
