Calling all pet lovers! It’s no secret that some destinations are more pet-friendly than others, which can definitely overcomplicate trip planning. Luckily, Marin County loves your pooch as much as you do. From inns that can book your dog’s grooming to suites stocked with pet towels and water bowls, your pet will feel right at home. Whether on a budget or not, here are five of the best pet-friendly hotels and bed-and-breakfasts in the area.

AC Hotel San Rafael:  Pets are welcome with one pet per room, 40 lbs max, and a $50 non-refundable charge per night, or a maximum of $150 per stay.  1201 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael, 628-336-6500

Embassy Suites by Hilton San Rafael:  Pet guests are welcome here with a pet fee of $75/stay (1-4 nights) and $125/stay (5+ nights). The number of pets allowed is two. The pet weight limit is 75 lbs—no breed restrictions. *Dogs and cats are welcome.  101 McInnis Parkway, San Rafael, 415-499-9222

Marin Hilltop Hotel

A pet-friendly hotel option for travelers with complimentary WiFi, an outdoor pool, a hot tub, and an outdoor patio with a fireplace. Book one of the Deluxe Patio rooms for plenty of space for your furry friend to play and relax. Up to two pets are allowed per stay. Don't hesitate to get in touch with the hotel directly for pet policies details.
1010 Northgate Dr., San Rafael  844-631-0595

Panama Hotel & Restaurant

Doubling as a restaurant for registered guests, the Panama Hotel takes pet-friendly to a whole new level. Styled as a historic bed-and-breakfast in the heart of San Rafael, there’s a certain charm that comes with staying here. Rooms feature tile or hardwood floors and there are pet bowls as well as towels at the ready. Guests should note the nightly fee of $15 per pet, with a maximum of two animals. Take advantage of the hotel’s trendy location—Gerstle Park—for an afternoon walk. As for the restaurant, stick around for the live music.

Nick’s Cove

Similar to Panama Hotel, the charming and historic Nick’s Cove also doubles as a restaurant, but right on the water of stunning Tomales Bay. Dogs are allowed in dedicated cottages and in the outdoor section of the restaurant. There’s even a pastry chef who bakes signature (and healthy) dog treats, plus plenty of water bowls for staying hydrated. In each cottage, including the waterfront cottages,  you’ll find dog towels. Best of all, Nick’s Cove has a concierge who can help guide you on the best pet-friendly walks around Marshall. Your pet will feel as pampered and catered to like you.

Extended Stay Deluxe Hotel

If you didn’t get the hint from its name, San Rafael’s Extended Stay Deluxe Hotel is a good fit for both short-term business travelers and longer-term vacationers. Suites are rentable by the day, week or month, all depending on how long you and your pooch want to stay. While Extended Stay Deluxe Hotel doesn’t have the bells and whistles of some of Marin’s more luxurious accommodations, it covers all the basics plus a few extras. Bonus points for the indoor heated swimming pool and complimentary Wi-Fi.
