It was over 10 years ago when three electric vehicle charging stations were first installed for public use at the Bear Valley Visitor Center parking lot at Point Reyes National Seashore.
As of May 2025, six 240V electric vehicle charging stations with Tesla J3400 connectors (and J1772 adapters) are available for public use at the Bear Valley Visitor Center parking lot at Point Reyes National Seashore. All users of the charging stations must now use the Tesla app and pay for the electricity. You will need a mobile phone, a tablet (Apple or Android), or a Tesla to pay for use of the charging stations. The price will change seasonally as PG&E switches from winter to summer back to winter pricing rates.
These Tesla electric vehicle charging stations also allow non-Tesla vehicle users to download the Tesla app or scan a QR code, use a provided J1772 adapter after entering a valid credit card payment. Owners of Ford EVs have the FordPass app and can charge a vehicle without downloading the Tesla app after selecting Bear Valley Visitor Center as a location in the FordPass App. Each option will include an alphanumeric string of characters which is the station's ID.
NOTICE: Please be aware that parking in the Bear Valley Visitor Center parking lot—including at the EV charging stations—between midnight and 6 am is prohibited. An exception is made for visitors with current backcountry camping permits. Campers who have driven plug-in electric or hybrid vehicles may park overnight at the Bear Valley EV charging stations so long as they display the parking pass that was issued to them when they picked up their camping permit.
