The Marin Museum of Bicycling is a bicycle history museum and cultural center in Fairfax, California. Highlights include the Igler Collection showing the fascinating evolution of the bicycle with original examples from the 1860s to the 1890s, and the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, an unsurpassed collection of mountain bikes with key provenance, showing the birth and evolution of the mountain bike. We also have a small but diverse selection of 20th century road, track, touring and transportation bicycles and related artifacts. Our Library, available for browsing, includes books, periodicals and ephemera. Our Archives include fascinating original items from the 19th century to the present day.
We are an all-volunteer-run museum, specializing in a rich visitor experience. Our displays include texts and photographs that provide a wealth of information. Docents, some of whom are Mountain Bike Hall of Fame Inductees, are usually available to give tours of the collections. Plan about an hour for a tour, more if you have specific areas of interest that you would like to explore. Whether you’re a cyclist or not, you’re sure to gain a greater understanding of and appreciation for the bicycle and its amazing history and potential.
