Twined Rush Basket Workshop with Charlie Kennard at the Marin Art and Garden Center

Learn how to make a twined basket using rush (Juncus) grown in the Basketry Garden at Marin Art and Garden Center. Basketry expert Charlie Kennard will guide you step-by-step and show you the ropes in this hands-on workshop.
Each participant will create a small twined basket using locally grown rush, a native plant commonly found in Marin’s damp meadows and ditches, and also available through some nurseries. The class is suitable for both beginners and experienced weavers.
This workshop focuses on learning traditional materials, techniques, and basketry practices rather than completing a finished basket. All skill levels are welcome.
Students should bring scissors, a water bowl (a 9” round cake pan is ideal), and lunch.
This class is designed for adults and teens, and offers a unique opportunity to work with natural, locally sourced materials while learning a traditional craft.
