Introduction to Leatherworking: Students will make leather journal covers that will fit a Moleskine Pocket Notebook. This class is designed to teach important techniques which can be utilized to create simple, well-made leather goods with an emphasis on clean stitching and edges. We will be focusing on saddle stitching, but will also use rivets and button snaps. Tools covered will include awl, stitching groover, pricking wheel, saddle-stitch needles, edge beveler, riveting tools and tragacanth gum to seal edges. We will be using vegetable tanned leather that will age well and develop a nice patina with years of use.
