Date: Friday, February 24, 2017
Join olive farming expert Samantha Dorsey, Ria D'Aversa, McEvoy Ranch's Farming Manager, and Guillermo Barba, McEvoy Ranch's Farming Supervisor, for a morning workshop which will outline some of the special considerations for pruning productive, fruit-bearing olive trees and will help you to finesse your pruning techniques.
Indoor Pruning Lecture and Discussion includes topics on timing, proper use of tools, different techniques for different applications, young trees versus older trees, maximizing fruit production, and orchard culutral practices.
Outdoor Demonstration and Practice: after the morning discussion, we'll gather in one of our olive orchards for further instruction, observation, and practice of techniques. Please come prepared to spend time in the field-we will be on uneven surfaces and temperatures/conditions may vary. We will have a few extra pruning tools on hand, but please feel free to bring your own. Rainy conditions will not cancel the workshop-please remember to dress appropriately.
Cost: $90 per person
McEvoy Ranch is located at 5935 Red Hill Road, Petaluma, 94952. We love our pets, too, but unfortunately, with the exception of service dogs, they have to stay at home. The local wildlife has been known to greet arriving guests—look out for wild turkeys, deer, foxes and jackrabbits (to name a few) from the lower gate all the way up to the Ranch. Please drive slowly (15 mph) after you turn off the main road. The Ranch is the McEvoy family's private residence, so please stay with your group during your visit. McEvoy Ranch is not responsible for injuries to visitors. Attendance and participation are at your own discretion. Cancellations made up to 1 week in advance will receive a full refund. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 707.769.4138 if your plans change.
