Marin County is made for families—and that includes your furry companions! From outdoor adventures to hands-on educational activities, there’s something here for every crew member. Think dog-friendly beaches, kid-focused attractions, and plenty of fresh air.

Whether you're hitting the trails, sailing the bay, or simply relaxing in a hotel, there’s a lot to love.
Curious about where to start? Here are some ideas!

A Day on the Farm at Slide Ranch

Tucked along the coast within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Slide Ranch is a great spot for families looking to spend meaningful time outdoors. Kids can explore the working farm, meet animals, and participate in nature-based activities that teach them where food comes from and how it connects to our health and the environment.

Families can hike, fish, or picnic while taking in the ocean views. It’s the perfect place to slow down, get outside, and let kids learn through play and discovery—no screens needed!

Fast Fun for Young Fans at Sonoma Raceway

If your kids love cars, speed, and action, Sonoma Raceway is the place to be. Just an hour north of San Francisco, this legendary track is home to some of the most significant racing events in the country, including the only NASCAR race in California.

For younger fans, the Sonoma Raceway Kids Club adds extra excitement with special perks, activities, and behind-the-scenes fun during race weekends. It’s a great way to introduce kids to the world of motorsports in a safe and engaging environment while the whole family enjoys the thrill of the track.

Sail, Learn, and Explore. It’s the Call of the Sea

Call of the Sea offers a unique chance for kids and families to get out on the water and learn through real sailing experiences. Located in Sausalito, this nonprofit connects people of all ages to the ocean through science-based educational programs aboard traditional ships like the schooner Seaward and the hybrid-electric Matthew Turner.

From day sails to overnight adventures, kids can explore marine environments, learn basic seamanship, and develop a deeper appreciation for the sea and its ecosystems. It’s a fun and inspiring way to turn a day on the Bay into a lifelong memory.

Saddle Up for Trail Rides at Five Brooks Ranch

Looking for a unique way to explore the beauty of Point Reyes? Five Brooks Ranch offers guided horseback trail rides through the stunning national seashore, perfect for families who want a peaceful, scenic adventure.

Kids aged six and up can join in on the trail, while younger ones can enjoy pony rides planned just for them. With views, fresh air, and friendly horses, it's a great way for all ages to connect with nature, from a saddle.

Catch a Game with the San Rafael Pacifics

Nothing says summer like a day at the ballpark. The San Rafael Pacifics bring classic baseball charm to Albert Park, just a short drive from San Francisco. As part of the Pecos League, the team plays from May through July, offering up close, exciting games in a family-friendly setting.

With tickets starting at just $10, it's an easy and fun outing for all ages. Grab a seat, enjoy the game, and explore nearby shops and restaurants in downtown San Rafael for a complete day of fun!

Paw-Some Things to Do with Your Dog

If you're wondering how to explore Marin with your furry best friend, don't worry, you're in luck! Marin County is packed with dog-friendly spots, from beaches and parks to patios and trails.

Dog-Friendly Beaches

Marin has plenty of beaches where dogs can join the fun. Most require leashes but offer incredible scenery and space to run around.

  • Kehoe Beach, Inverness: A quieter, more remote beach that is perfect for peaceful walks. Dogs must be leashed due to nearby wildlife.
  • Limantour Beach, Point Reyes: This one is quite spacious and scenic. Leashed dogs are allowed on the southeast end and can walk with you to Santa Maria Beach. Be sure to follow posted signs.
  • Upton Beach, Stinson Beach: Located at the northern end of Stinson Beach, Upton Beach allows leashed dogs to enjoy the sand and waves. You’ll also find picnic areas by Eskoot Creek where your pup can relax with you after a beach stroll.

Muir Beach, Rodeo Beach, and the North and South Point Reyes Beaches also allow dogs, but it's advised to check signs for specific leash rules.
