Tiburon

Originally named “Punta de Tiburon” (Point of Sharks) by Spanish Explorers in 1776, the historic railroad town of Tiburon is reminiscent of a quaint New England fishing village. Now a quaint yet bustling paradise on the bay, Tiburon, known locally as “The Sunny Side of the Bay,” is a picturesque bayside town blessed with plentiful marinas, yacht clubs, tennis courts and swimming facilities.

Bound by water on three sides, stretching southward and forming the east border of lovely Richardson Bay, the scenic Tiburon Peninsula is located on the San Francisco Bay and has breathtaking views of Angel Island and the Golden Gate Bridge. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the convenient ferry service to both Angel Island State Park, a haven for biking and hiking, or to San Francisco, which is a delightful six miles across the bay.
Tiburon’s historic and chic Main Street is known as "Ark Row" because of the 1890s recreational houseboat lifestyle enjoyed in Belvedere Cove by sea captains, Bohemian artists, and summer residents from San Francisco. In winter, the arks anchored in the lagoon. After 1900, the craze for arks waned. Today it is lined with unique and trendy shops, art galleries, high-end waterfront restaurants and casual cafes.

The groomed greenbelt along the walking path just off of Main Street and Ark Row offer unsurpassed views of San Francisco and Marin County, and is one of the most romantic spots in the entire Bay Area.

The Tiburon International Film Festival (TIFF) is an annual event which seeks to provide a greater understanding of the world and its many cultures through the artistic medium of film. It features top quality films from around the world. Its goal is one of cultural enrichment and heightened cultural awareness. Tiburon is also home to Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies, which is committed to advancing the understanding of the world’s complex marine and estuarine environments through research, education and outreach.

Other sites to visit include Old St. Hilary's, a restored Carpenter Gothic Church overlooking the bay, the Tiburon Uplands Nature Preserve and the Richardson Bay Audubon Center and Sanctuary. The town of Tiburon is a tourist's delight.
